Description
Forme cent surface is actually a play on words. Its similarity to the Moebius ribbon is not insignificant – it is what inspired the name.
It means “shape with a hundred surfaces” but also sounds like, “shape without surfaces” in French.
A single shape made with hundreds of surfaces that once assembled, generates a volume without a distinct surface.
This artwork is made of wood. It consists of a precise assembly of laser cut wood sheets.
These layers with darker brown edges remind us of the tree rings evoking the passing of time.
The shadows created by the juxtaposition of these surfaces accentuates the relief and softens the form as a whole.
Although this work has a shape close to the “8” symbol of luck and “prosperity” in China, it is the infinite character that the artist seeks to enhance. An industrial process that gives life to a perpetual loop.
